Cosmetic Surgery as a Gift — is it Appropriate?

November 26, 2018

With cosmetic surgery and anti-aging procedures becoming more and more popular, the idea of giving them as a gift isn’t as strange as you may think. In fact, the demand for plastic surgery jumps more than 25% from Thanksgiving to Christmas and nearly 30% of women say they’d be happy to accept cosmetic surgery as a gift.

If you’re thinking of giving the gift of cosmetic surgery this holiday season, make sure to consider these few things:

  1. Make sure to have discussed cosmetic surgery with them before. You should only gift someone cosmetic surgery if they have explicitly said in the past that they want to have a procedure done. Don’t surprise someone with a cosmetic surgery procedure if it’s because you want it for them.
  2. Gather information about where your loved one is going for surgery. While you can gift a check or cash, you can also give a gift card for a specific practice. If you plan on doing that latter, make sure you take where they want to go into consideration. Deciding who is going to perform a surgery is one of the most important factors, and it’s one you shouldn’t make for them.
  3. Consider expiration dates. Though many gift cards have no expiration date, some require you to use the funds or at least booked a consultation within one year.
  4. Ask if the gift card or certificate is refundable. If the person you’re gifting it to suddenly decides not to get the procedure or can’t for some reason, you want to ensure the gift doesn’t go to waste.
