How Breastfeeding Changes Your Body

When it comes to nourishing and caring for your baby, most pediatricians agree that “breast is best.” Because of this, many women are proud to breastfeed their little ones. But when it comes time for your baby to move on to sippy cups, it’s not uncommon for women to find that their breasts don’t look like they did before children.

How Breast Feeding Changes Your Appearance

Though every woman’s body is uniquely different, it’s common for women who are breastfeeding to experience:

  • Ptosis. This is a fancy way of saying “drooping.” After months of carrying excess weight in your chest, in the form of milk, many women’s breast begin to hang lower than they previously did.
  • Deflation. Months of having your breasts filled then drained of breast milk can affect your skin’s elasticity. Especially after they stop breastfeeding, many women feel like their breasts are a cup size, or more, smaller than they once were. If your bras are suddenly too large or you’re not filling out tops like you once were, it might not be your imagination.
  • Skin Imperfections. Many women experience nipple chafing and stretch marks on their breasts during and after their time spent breastfeeding.

Improving the Look of Your Breasts

Whether you’re currently breastfeeding or just finished, there’s no shame in admitting you want younger looking, perky breasts. From surgical options to non-invasive techniques, it is possible to drastically improve the look of your chest.

Wear the Right Bra

A supportive bra can make a world of difference, both when you are and aren’t wearing it. By wearing a well-fitting bra, you can combat the effects of gravity on your breasts.

Lotion, Lotion, Lotion!

Non-scented, dye-free lotion should be your best friend before, during, and after breastfeeding. This will help keep your skin firm and taught.

Breast Lift

If your breasts are the same size as they used to be, but hang lower than you’d like, you may want to consider a breast lift.

Breast Implant

If you feel as though your breasts have deflated, a breast augmentation may be the best choice for you. Breast augmentation not only lifts and improves the look of your breasts, but it also has been known to boost a woman’s self-confidence!
