Differences Between Liposuction & SmartLipo

April 30, 2018

Are you interested in undergoing a liposuction procedure, but haven’t done your research? If you haven’t seen it already, one of the first topics you will come across in your study is the different types of procedures available to you. In fact, when determining if liposuction is the right choice for you, you will have to choose between SmartLipo and traditional liposuction.

What Are the Differences Between SmartLipo & Liposuction?

Although liposuction and SmartLipo both result in the removal of unwanted fat, there are a couple of crucial differences between the two procedures:

  • Process: While a cannula (a tube that sucks fat away) is used to remove fat in both procedures, the process of removing the fat from the body is different. In SmartLipo, the surgeon uses a laser to soften or liquefy the undesired fat which is then sucked up by the cannula. However, in traditional liposuction procedures, the fat is removed from the body through physical manipulation. In general, the laser-removal of fat is easier on the body, which results in less bruising for the patient.
  • Tightening: During a traditional liposuction procedure, the patient receives no skin tightening benefits from the process. However, during a SmartLipo procedure, the surgeon can use the heat of the laser to tighten the newly formed stomach. Therefore, many people prefer SmartLipo because their skin can potentially look tighter after the surgery.
  • Recovery: Traditional liposuction is known for long recovery periods. However, SmartLipo cuts that recovery time to pieces. In fact, SmartLipo patients may recuperate from their procedure in a little as a week, while traditional liposuction patients can take up to six weeks to recover.

Although you may want to choose SmartLipo after reading these facts, the reality is that you should talk to a professional cosmetic surgeon before you make a final choice. There are plenty of benefits to both procedures, and discussing your desired results with a surgeon will guarantee you make the right decision.
