Be honest.

Tell your family that you’ve felt insecure about a part of your body for years and that you want to have this procedure because it will improve your confidence, help you feel more comfortable in your clothes, etc. Whatever the real and honest reason for going through with cosmetic surgery is, tell them.

Make sure they know you’ve done the research.

Make it clear to your family that this is not something you decided on a whim. Give them information about the procedure, an estimated recovery period, and why this is the right procedure for you.

Don’t wait too long to tell them.

You should talk to your family after you’ve had a consultation and are sure you’re going to have this procedure. However, you don’t want to wait until the night before your surgery to spring it on them.

Bring someone supportive to the discussion.

If a close friend or sibling already knows about the procedure and supports you wholeheartedly, ask them to tag along. They can help comfort you if your family reacts negatively and help to answer some questions.
