Tips to Eat Healthy On Thanksgiving

November 21, 2016

The look and smell of a Thanksgiving feast is enough to put even the strictest dieters over the edge. All of your favorite foods and people are gathered together in one place and it can be hard to remain disciplined. Whether you plan on pigging out or taking it easy, here are a few small things you can do to avoid overeating.

Post-Meal Exercise
There is nothing wrong with organizing a family stroll through the town after the big meal. A nice walk will help you digest and also get your blood flowing so you don’t become a couch potato. Try and announce this early on in the day as it will probably be hard to motivate people after they have already eaten.

Productive Friday
Try to lay off the extra glass of wine at dinner so you can wake up and be productive the next day. You can wake up early to take advantage of Black Friday sales and then get the rest of your energy out at the gym!

Dish Duty
This is a trick that has double the benefits. One, you’ll earn the gratitude of your host for your service in the kitchen. Two, it gets you away from the table so you can stop picking at the leftovers.

Call it Quits
The human body is amazing and it does a good job at signalling you that it is too full. After your first serving, allow your body the time to figure out whether or not it has had enough. If you eat too fast, you likely won’t find out that you are overstuffed until it is too late.

The Choice Is Yours
Nobody is asking you to bring your pre-made chicken and broccoli to the feast, but you can make healthier choices. For example, choosing the green beans over the mashed potatoes or maybe using a splash of gravy instead of pooling it. Believe it or not, there are ways to enjoy this glutenous meal without letting it completely derail your diet.
